Types Of RV Travel Trailers
There are various basic categories of recreational vehicles or travel trailer campers on the market today. Each may have subcategories within the main category heading. Listed below are the RVing types that most are familiar with.
Motorhomes
Class A Motorhome
The A Class Motorhome is the huge bus-like self-propelled recreational vehicle that is a bit boxy looking, and has its own engine. These recreational vehicle models usually range in length from 25 to 45 feet, and Class A motorhomes are typically 8-11 or so feet tall; depending on whether or not they fall into the "low profile" category. Additionally, Class A RV's are equipped with a cockpit, bathroom with tub or shower, a kitchen (galley), a master bedroom with queen sized bed, and a living area.
Also, these RV's are fully self contained, typically have one or more slide outs, and are the largest and most luxurious recreational vehicles on the market today. And, it should go without saying; these are the most expensive RV's around.
Class C Motorhome
The next smallest "self-contained" motorhome is the Class C. These models are frequently known as mini-motorhomes, and their length generally ranges between 20 and 33 feet. Like their larger cousins, the C class motorhome is equipped with a living area, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, slide-outs, and many other standard features.
Class B Motorhome
The B Class motorhomes are known by several different RVing terms. They are often called: camper vans, conversion vans, and also camping van conversion. Class B motorhomes generally have a small kitchen or galley, a dining area, a raised roof, and can also be equipped with a toilet and other options.
Pickup Camper
Pickup Truck Camper
The more modern pickup truck campers are usually made of lighter weight materials like aluminum frame construction and such. These units fit on the truck bed of even smaller trucks like a Tacoma or a Ranger.
Depending on your budget and truck size, these nice little campers can be equipped with: air conditioners, hot water heaters, small refrigerators, a sink, a two burner stove and more. Also, if you buy pickup truck campers they should have an "over the cab" double bed that will sleep 2, and another single bed in the dining area.
Towable Pull-Behind Travel Trailers
Fifth Wheel Campers
In the RV'ing world, the 5th wheel trailer (fiver) is the largest towable camper currently on the market. These trailers, like their motorized Class A Motorhome counterparts, are the most luxurious among the towables.
They are easily recognizable by their gooseneck hitch configuration that fits into the bed of large pickup trucks. Fifth wheel RV's are very roomy, self-contained, and are generally equipped with one or more slide-outs, master bedrooms, spacious living areas, nicely equipped kitchens and much more.
Conventional Travel Trailer
Toy Hauler Trailers
Another popular type of recreational vehicle is the toy hauler RV. New and used toy haulers for sale are quite popular among motor sports fans. What makes these RV's unique is that they have a compartment in the rear that is used for transporting dirt bike, ATV, motorcycles and other motor sports equipment.
Depending on the camper size you buy, these RV travel trailers are generally self contained, have small kitchens, a bathroom, and sleeping accommodations which may include a master bedroom. You can buy toy haulers in conventional travel trailer configurations and 5th wheel toy hauler styles.
Teardrop Travel Trailer Camper
Teardrop campers are probably the smallest towable travel trailer on the market. When you buy one of these little RV’s, you can go on a camping trip and take your bed with you.
Teardrops are available from a variety of manufacturers and come in various sizes. Depending on the manufacturer, models generally will sleep 2 adults, and are long enough to sleep someone as tall as 6 – 6 ½’.
