Fifth Wheel Travel Trailers
In the towable RV travel trailer world, 5th wheel trailers are the largest camper you can buy. These large RV travel trailers typically range from about 20 feet long up to 40 feet long.
When you vacation or live in one of these "fivers," it's like you're staying in a mobile apartment. These fully outfitted RV's generally come completely equipped with all the trimmings, and then some.
There are many great manufacturers of quality recreational vehicles out there today, and they produce a lot of beautiful campers and trailers. Here are a few popular RV manufacturers to whet your whistle:
Cedar Creek, Dutchmen
, Heartland
, Holiday Rambler
, Jayco
, Keystone
Fifth Wheel Trailer Amenities
5th wheel trailer RV's are the most roomy and luxurious of all the towable travel trailer types currently on the market. Their standard and optional equipment will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and will also vary depending on whether or not you buy an entry level model; or go for a top of the line fifth wheel.
5th Wheel RV Sleeping Capacity
Fifth wheels generally have a sleeping capacity of between 4 and 10 people. They are typically equipped with a master bedroom and a queen sized bed, and the rest of the sleeping areas consist of bunk beds, fold out beds, sleeper sofas, or some combination thereof.
RV Slide Outs
As with variations in sleeping capacity, the number of slide-outs your 5th wheel RV travel trailer has will depend on the model, manufacturer, and amount of money you have to spend on your new or used fifth wheel camper. The bigger your pocketbook, the more sliders, and the more room you will ultimately have.
In general, most fifth wheeler models will have anywhere from one to three slide outs. Most of these RV slide outs will contain your sofa, a hide-a-bed, or other type of additional living accommodations. In the case of a slider for your dining area, they are typically equipped with either a dinette or an optional table and chair set.
Fifth Wheel Storage Space
As with most other recreational vehicles and RV travel trailers in general, your 5th wheel trailer will come equipped with more storage options than you probably thought possible. These days, RV manufacturers have gone to great lengths to ensure that every square inch of your RV camper has been optimized to supply you with adequate storage.
Some of the storage areas you are likely to be supplied with are:
- Overhead Compartments (OHC)
- Under Bed Storage
- Basement Storage
- Shelves
- Outside Storage Compartments
- and more...
While there is likely to be plenty of storage space in new or used 5th wheel trailers, don't expect to fit the contents of a three bedroom house in one. You will have to be realistic. You'll need to do a bit of downsizing if you plan on living in your new or used travel trailer.
Fifth Wheel RV Kitchen
The kitchen or galley, as they're sometimes called, in your 5th wheel camper can range from basic to fabulous. Naturally, your budget will determine where in that range your kitchen will end up being. In general though, an RV's kitchen will be equipped with a stove with 3 or 4 burners, a standard sized refrigerator, an oven, a microwave, a single or double sink, and a decent amount of kitchen cabinet storage.
Some of the galleys in 5th wheel trailers are equipped with peninsulas and islands, pendant lighting, Corian counter tops and more. Depending on the recreational vehicle manufacturer, some of these items are standard equipment and some are optional.
